The Pay-it-Forward club didn’t sleep in this past Saturday morning. Instead, they helped honor Londonderry veterans by hosting their annual Veteran’s Day breakfast.
House 4 Assistant Principal Ms. Sullivan and her Pay it Forward club had been working for the past two weeks to organize the breakfast. They gathered donations from all over the community and spent countless hours making decorations and setting up the tables in preparation to honor those who have served and kept America safe.
“Staying late couldn’t compare to the smiles on their face the next morning,” senior Kiley White said. “The real reward was seeing the happiness in their eyes Saturday morning.”
Around 7:30 a.m. veterans started to pull into the parking lot and began walking into the cafe for the annual breakfast.
“I realized that all the hard work paid off that morning once I saw the happiness of the veterans,” White said.
The turnout for this event was high. More than 100 veterans attended and each got a donation basket upon leaving. They also got a shopping bag with the opportunity to fill it with even more food.
Chuck O’Lech was one of the veterans who attended. He served in the air force from 1962-1966.
O’Lech said he would have stayed in the service longer than those four years, “but Nam was becoming very bad and I was worried for my life and leaving my family,” he said.
“Being sent to Nam changed my aspect on life,”O’Lech said. “I now treat people with more respect, and I appreciate everything that I have.”
