The LHS student council announced today that the Homecoming dance scheduled for Saturday, September 19th will be cancelled.
The announcement came only a day before the dance was slated to take place, leaving the student council disappointed, according to student council president Dale Larie. The last Homecoming dance to successfully go off happened in 2012.
“I was surprised by the lack of support among underclassmen,” student council president Dale Larie said. “And I was surprised that so few seniors wanted to go to more than just one dance [prom] over their entire high school career.”
For a dance to take place, a minimum of 100 tickets needed to be sold. Going into Friday morning, only 37 tickets had been bought.
According to Larie, a weeklong sales booth in all lunch periods made the majority of ticket sales, but ultimately, too few tickets were soldĀ to hold the dance.
Students who purchased tickets for Homecoming will receive a full refund from the student council.
