It was one year ago when Lancer Baseball suffered a heartbreaking first round loss to Salem.
This year the eight seeded Lancers (11-9) face off against the nine seeded Salem Blue Devils (10-8) in the first round for the second year in a row. The Lancers are on a two game winning streak heading into the game, while Salem has dropped their last two regular season games.
On paper the Lancers have all the momentum, however going back to the place your season ended a year ago can be a mental challenge for any team. According to senior Nick Salcito, there is no such challenge,
“We feel very confident as a team.” Salcito said.
Teams would usually see a rematch like this a a revenge game, but the Lancers see this game as another day on the diamond,
“To us this is just another game” Salcito said. “We need to make routine plays, hit the ball, throw strikes, and limit scoring opportunities like every other game we’ve played.” Salcito also added.
Junior pitcher Anthony Pirolli, who was recently named Second Team All-State, will get the starting nod for the Lancers.
First pitch is today, 4:00 at Salem.
