With tryouts just around the corner, girls’ basketball is getting ready to take on a new season.
“Last season we did pretty well for being a young team with only two seniors and one junior,” said sophomore Courtney Shay. “Our record was 12-5, and we were the 5th seed going into playoffs.”
The team lost in the first round to Dover with a score of 47-46. This came as a surprise to many as the girls had secured a 53-37 win during the regular season.
“Losing to Dover definitely took us by surprise, but I know that if we go into the season with the desire to win, we can,” Shay said.
This year, the team is going to be on the younger side with just two seniors, four returning juniors, one sophomore, and three swing players.
“I think this season is going to go well, but I don’t know if our record will be as good as the past few years because we have such a young team and so much to prove,” senior Michaela Downing said.
The team will see a number of competitive opponents this year including Bishop Guertin, Pinkerton and Bedford. However, they hope to bring in some new players to help work towards the title.
“I am looking forward to the start of this season, especially considering basketball is my favorite sport,” Shay said. “I think if we work hard and play to our best abilities, we have a chance of doing well again this year.”
The girls’ first game is on Dec. 8 vs. Manchester Memorial High School.
