The skill of the dance team is no secret to Lancer Nation; we see them take over the floor each pep-rally. But last Sunday, the dance team had the opportunity to show off their expertise to the whole state.
At a competition at Conval High School in Peterborough, the dance team had a clean sweep of awards taking first place in the Jazz and Lyrical categories for their group dances and won overall high score. The team also had a clean sweep in the individual improve category with sophomore Marissa Durango coming in first place, junior Haley Gyorda in second and freshman Ariana Bilodeau in third.
“It is a reminder that all our hard work paid off and we really are skilled and confident in what we do,” dance team coach Mrs. Wooding said.
The competition had four judges that awarded points and were required to offer criticism to the teams on how they can improve. The only criticism the dance team received was that their customs could be better coordinated because the girls had flowers on different parts of their dresses. According to Wooding, the judges probably had a difficult time finding things to critique the team about.
“We tried to do things that were more exciting for the audience, and it paid off in the end,” dance team captain and senior Brook Soucy said.
Throughout the year the team has tried to intensify their pep rally routines by adding more tricks in preparation for the competition. Next year they hope on continuing this trend and improve even more.
“I’m happy to leave the team on a strong note and hopefully I’ll be able to hear about how well they do next year,” Soucy said.
