Hillary Clinton
Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared to NH residents as an empowering and inspiring woman ready to be the next president of the US. Clinton presented at the NH Primary Democratic Convention on Sat, Sept. 19 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley attended the event as well.
Clinton gave a strong presentation and was very well-spoken and articulate. She spoke fiercely, not holding back. Clinton also brought some humor to her speech and was fearless in attacking her Republican rivals like Donald Trump. Her main message for what she will bring to America is equality in all shapes and forms.
Changes to be made within the US
Among the domestic issues she addressed were the funding of Planned Parenthood, increasing the minimum wage, and decreasing student debts. Clinton said that paying for college should not be the hardest thing about going to college.
Another issue that she addressed closer to the hearts of New Hampshirites was fighting substance abuse and setting up more rehab facilities, especially with the growing heroin addiction rates.
Other issues that were addressed by Clinton included strengthening public schools, producing renewable energy, taking on climate change, and putting an end to gun violence. She also mentioned the importance of awareness and getting support for the caregivers of those with mental health problems, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease.
For the people, not the money
Clinton supports all Americans, not just the wealthy. A key issue she will address in the White House is gun violence and an end to racial-affiliated attacks. She also will increase government support for the thousands of homeless veterans nationwide.
Hillary wants young people brought into the US economy again. Clinton wants to help the middle class and make America grow strong again.
Her campaign is driven by stories of purpose and hope and she said that she wants to be the president who keeps listening. Clinton talked about the heart of America: the families. She mentioned all of the everyday hardships the average American family faces and how she will change America from the ground up.
Clinton praised President Obama and said that he deserves more credit than he receives. Hillary wants to challenge us again and set big goals. She called her Republican rivals out-of-touch and out-of-reach. Clinton believes that America needs to use common sense, not nonsense.
Carly Fiorina
The only woman running for the GOP presidential nomination for the 2016 election is Carly Fiorina. She is making history not only as one of two women running this election cycle, but also as one of the only candidates with no prior experience in politics. Fiorina has never held an elected position despite running for a Senate seat in California in 2010.
Gaining support with Republicans
Despite of, or maybe because of, her lack of experience in politics, Fiorina has been gaining support among Republicans. No longer is her name an unknown, for she is now one of the top 10 Republicans running. Fiorina is running on the basis that she is not a politician and can bring much needed change to Washington.
Though turn out for her events is not as immense as turn out for a candidate like Trump, or Bush, Fiorina’s powerful words left her crowd cheering and applauding. Fiorina finished her speech to a standing ovation. Her supporters were fervent with their support and the GOP candidate was surrounded by admirers of all ages immediately after the question and answer portion of the event held at Windham Elementary School was over.
Traditional conservative views, but willing to compromise
Fiorina has the traditional views of the Republican party in regards to abortion and gay marriage that independents and Democrats, or “Progressives,” as Fiorina refers to them as, may not agree with. However, Fiorina does speak of compromise.
She wants to find common ground on the issues like abortion, and go straight to the citizens on these issues. Her message is one that tells ordinary citizens that they do have a voice and that the only way Washington will change is if citizens pressure their representatives to change it. Yet, she speaks of compromise without giving in. As a businesswoman, she has had years of experience making deals and not backing down. There is no doubt that this will come in handy in the White House, but candidates have been promising to “get things done” for years, and nothing has happened.
Fiorina mentions this in her address to the ordinary citizens of NH. She explains that Americans all know the issues, that they have been talking about the same things: border control, budget issues, the Middle East, for years and multiple elections. Still, Fiorina tells the crowd, who is nodding in agreement, that nothing has been solved.
Plans for a more efficient government
Her solution is a smaller, more effective government. She wants to cut down on domestic spreading, grow the military, and repeal Obamacare in favor of a different health care plan.
Fiorina may not have all the answers, she many not know how to run a country, and she may not win the nomination or the presidency, but she has brought hope of change and of a different government, one where people feel their voice is heard in their vote, and one where there is no “political class” or “big government” crushing the masses, to thousands of people nationwide.
