Sometimes the seemingly impossible can be possible. The LHS golfers know a thing or two about that.
“We pulled something out of nothing to get into the tournament,” senior captain Dan Pleva said.
The boys golf team finished 9th out of 10 teams at the NHIAA Golf Tournament on Thursday. The boys had to work hard to get to the tournament, as they were forced to forfeit a couple matches in the season and had to come through in the last few matches to get in.
English teacher and golf coach Mr. Sicard was very proud of his golfers this year and how they got to the tournament.
“There is a lot of character and grit on this team, and the guys all performed well,” Sicard said. “We were in a hole, and the guys battled out of it.”
Sicard was especially proud of Pleva, his top scorer who qualified for the individual state match on Saturday back at the Hanover Country Club, with a score of 79.
“He finished tied for 7th overall, and I was very happy with his performance,” Sicard said. “I definitely think he has a shot at qualifying for the top 5.”
Pleva is looking forward to competing on the course again.
“I’m excited for Saturday,” Pleva said. “I want to get a better score and fix some mistakes that I had [onThursday].”
Pleva said Ryan Quinn from Winnacunnet and Brandon Gillis from Bedford “are definitely two of the best golfers.”
“My goal is get into the top 5,” he said.
While the season has come to an end for the rest of the LHS golfers, Sicard said he is very proud of his team.
“Just getting to the tournament was a huge accomplishment for us,” Sicard said. “It was the icing on the cake for a great season.”
