When people hear I’m going to an art college after high school, they assume the only job I’m going to get is selling my paintings out of a refrigerator box on the curb. They scoff and tell me I’ll never make a living, and the term “starving artist” is a saying for a reason; but the future I have in mind is a bright and happy one.
When I picture myself after I graduate college, I see myself as an illustrator for children’s books, or even a tattoo artist. People tend to forget that art is everywhere, from the shoes on your feet to the phone in your hand. So the next time people ridicule that I’m going to college for art, I won’t worry and neither should anyone else, because I know I’ll be just fine.
