After winning the championship last season, Lancer Nation’s unified soccer team prepares to play a challenging Exeter team in the preliminary round of the 2020 playoffs.
During their three games this season, the Lancers achieved an undefeated record of 3-0. With the help of many returning players who had been dominant last season, there is no question of what the team is capable of.
“We have a lot of strong returning players, so that definitely helps, as well as some new players that are excited to experience playoffs for the first time,” senior helper Hannah Desmarais said.
Despite their short season, the team has scored a whopping forty-three goals. With their current season on the line, unified is prepared for a fantastic fight.
“Although our season has been short so far, we’ve done amazing in all of the games and scrimmages that we have played, and we’re looking to carry that momentum with us all the way through playoffs,” Desmarais said.
Not only has unified instilled a winning culture, but a great family bond has really helped the team have fun and win games
“Our team is very tight knit and we always support each other,” junior helper Natalie Karlson said, “Everyone is so nice and that vibe really keeps us close.”
Though winning isn’t everything for these athletes, it is definitely on everyone’s mind heading into this contest.
“The unified team is nothing but positive. We have the right attitude; we could definitely win,” Karlson said, “The biggest hurdle for us would be Exeter who we play today.”
On Thursday, Oct. 29, the team will travel to Exeter to continue the quest for another championship win.
“There’s definitely confidence among the whole team that we can win it all again,” Desmarais said.
