Girl’s basketball faces Bishop Guertin on March 11 at 7 PM in the semifinals. With a losing record of 4-9 the girl’s have impressively stepped up their game to become one of the final four teams.
Due to the pandemic the seeding was chosen at random putting the girls as second seed. With this to help them, along with hard work and determination the girls have exceeded expectations. Senior Ashley Schmitt is thankful to have this opportunity, given it was taken away from them last year due to the pandemic.
“I am very excited that we have made it to the final four for the second year in a row and I’m glad we get to play this time,” Schmitt said.
With BG’s strong lineup this will not be an easy game for the Lancers. However, they have proven their talent in the previous playoff games winning against both Salem and Windham. Schmitt has faith in her team and knows if they “stay calm and make the right decisions” they can advance to the finals.
“BG’s defense is going to come out strong and put lots of pressure on the ball, so if we play at our speed and not play the way they want us to, we can win,” Schmitt said. “Our biggest strength going into the game is our defense. If we play good man to man we will be okay.”
The Lancers have given it their all and they’re not stopping now. For Schmitt and her fellow seniors, this game means a lot. They’re ready to work hard and make the most of it.
“My thoughts going into the game are to play hard, make sure what has to get done gets done and whatever happens, it was a great four years,” Schmitt said.
