The 2022 boys’ track and field team needs to be a preseason favorite to do some major damage at meets this year. Following a great shortened 2021 season, the team has some very serious competitors who are set on making a run this year.
Senior Danny Garrity, has been running for the track team since freshman year and is very excited to accomplish both personal and team goals during his final season.
“It’s my last year so I have to leave everything out on the table, and hopefully by the time the last race comes around I’m happy with how I did,” Garrity said.
Garrity, who ran the 800 meter event last year and plans to stick with that, likes the determination and work ethic of his younger teammates.
“We have a lot of young guys who really stuck with the training throughout the winter,” Garrity said. “They’re probably way more committed than I ever was at that age, so props to them.”
Will Plante is another senior runner with high hopes heading into his last season. Plante is a cross country runner in the fall and uses this to run longer distances for track.
“We have a very diverse group this year, so I think we can score a lot of points in many different events,” Plante said.
With the diversity that Plante talked about, the track team definitely has potential to win each event at any given meet.
“We have a lot of top guys in multiple events, we have some good distance guys, some good jumpers, some sprinters, and a couple really good throwers this year,” Plante said. “We’ll definitely be seeing a lot of points overall and top placing in all events.”
Due to COVID-19, the New Hampshire spring track season was reduced by some meets last season. The boys are happy to be back competing in a full season.
“There weren’t as many normal meets last year as there usually are,” Plante said. “We’re excited to get back to some of the bigger meets, we host a pretty big meet here at Londonderry that we’re excited to have again.”
With high expectations, the team is just focused on improving every day, and enjoying the time with their friends.
“We’ve always been a cohesive unit, we’ve always just pushed each other to be the best we can be,” Garrity said.
