Memorial day is a day that comes every year. To some, it may not seem important, or anything more than the day off from school and for the parade. For 155 years since 1868 the United States has set aside the last Monday of May to honor those who went above and beyond for our country and died in the line of duty. It may seem like a mute point, just calling up names from times long past and speaking on their sacrifice. However, even in the modern day, it is still important to acknowledge that bravery and courage that inspired so many people to die for the freedoms that we as Americans are proud to represent. Today the Lancer Spirit would like to take a moment to acknowledge that spirit of sacrifice, bravery, and pride that these fallen heroes represent. As we enter adulthood, we realize more and more that superheroes aren’t men who go around flying in tights like in the comic books, but the average men and women who did something extraordinary to ensure that the place they call home can continue to be a beacon of love, freedom, liberty, and happiness for years after their sacrifice.
