As the new school year gets underway, members of Bring Change 2 Mind are gearing up to share their passion for mental health and the club’s significance. They can’t wait to engage all students and bring up all the positive impacts this club can have.
Bring Change 2 Mind, (BC2M), is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health. Some board members have expressed why they joined, what is important, and so much more of why this club is good.
What Bring Change 2 Mind means to these members:
From Senior President Steph Gervais:
“This is a safe place for people to go make friends and be in a safe environment. Our organization wants people to be more involved, open, and supportive,” Gervais said. “BC2M is a fantastic and important place for anyone and we hope it continues to grow and have the support of students.”
From Senior Vice President Ava Windisch:
“Bring Change 2 Mind is a mental health awareness club. Our goal is to help others express their feelings and talk about their struggles without feeling restricted,” Windisch said. “As well as making people comfortable enough to reach out when they’re struggling.”
From Junior Activities Coordinator Gill Rosen:
“It’s a national organization that’s goal is to spread awareness and end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness,” Rosen said.
Why they decided to join BC2M:
From Steph Gervais:
“I wanted to join BC2M to be the support for people struggling with anything. Helping others and being patient and trustworthy to them is very important,” Gervais said. “In today’s world, mental health is looked over, sometimes just forgotten. I never want people to feel like they have no space to go. Being connected as a school is very important if each of us wants to grow as individuals.”
From Ava Windisch:
“One of my close friends was on the board. I went to one of the meetings and had such a fun time,” Windisch said. “The people there were so nice, and the activities we did were fun.”
From Gill Rosen:
“I had some friends in the club freshman year and I thought it was a really good initiative,” Rosen said.
What they want people to take away from this club:
From Steph Gervais:
“I want people to know how supportive other people can be. When people are struggling with anything, a simple task, sometimes they need that extra boost and motivation. I hope people can learn how to be kind to others,” Gervais said. “Being kind is the foundation of a good relationship whether it’s a boss, friendship, or relationship. Our generation is so focused on impressing others with money or appearance. Social media has been a great place for people to hide and feel the need to bully people. I want people to engage with the world.”
From Ava Windisch:
“I want people to be comfortable when expressing their feelings and feel like our meetings are a safe space for them.” Windisch said. “Making mental health a normal and good thing to be open about.”
From Gill Rosen:
“That it promotes good mental health resources, positivity, and support.” Rosen said.
Some things to look forward to this school year:
From Steph Gervais:
“I’m looking forward to all the events we are planning. Getting the school together and branching out our name is very important,” Gervais said.
From Ava Windisch:
“Definitely the student and teacher basketball tournament we have with ALC (Athletic Leadership Council),” Windisch said.
From Gill Rosen:
“To gain more club members and spread our message across the school,” Rosen said.
