Along the walls of the front lobby, many pictures, quotes of encouragement, and reminders from clubs surround Lancer Nation throughout the day. Adding to that, the Blue and Purple Star Lancers have revamped their glass display with new and improved items inside. The glass display is now filled with pictures of individuals and different patriotic symbols.
Many students worked on the update including Blue Star Lancer Parker Tessier. The Blue Star Lancers want to make sure that the school takes notice of the glass display with important memorabilia that is often not noticed.
“We updated the box to give a refresh to something so commonly passed by in the school. As we passed it by during the day, we stopped to think about how we could create a more memorable place for them to be shown,” Tessier said. “We also updated some names and titles within the shadow box of the honored alums pictured and honored.”
For the update, many factors went into trying to create something that Lancer Nation could look upon and enjoy. By working together as a group, the club was able to upgrade the glass display “efficiently”. With new ideas being brought up, the box now has new name tags for the individuals in the box, specially designed with red, white, and blue ribbons to “draw more attention to the box”.
“We worked as a group to update the box with all different sorts of materials. We also dusted off some of the old pictures and sculptures inside the box,” Tessier said. “We recentered and reorganized some of the harder to see items in the box that deserved to be seen and honored. In the box you can find the names and images of many soldiers who have fought from Lancer Nation itself as well as different statues and folded flags.
The glass display is “incredibly important” to the Blue Star Lancers. They want Lancer Nation to be able to see the accomplishments of the people showcased inside the box. Having pictures of people helps make connections between members of the club and people who knew those pictured. Seeing how their life was impacted by those people is “amazing” to hear the things they have done.
“It’s truly moving to see how honoring those who fought or are fighting can truly do amazing things. Some of the members of our group, the Purple Star Lancers, have family members fighting or have fought, and it is so so important as a Lancer Nation to show our support to our troops and the individuals within them,” Tessier said.
Tessier felt that updating the glass display with the other members of the group was a “fun” opportunity that created time for the group to be together.
“Getting to have fun and craft while also creating a real impact within the school community as well as getting to have amazing conversations with all kinds of people while honoring those who truly deserve to be seen is such an incredible feeling and experience with my peers,” Tessier said.
