The annual craft fair is returning this Saturday, November 23in the LHS cafeteria and lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair won’t only include members of our community that wish to share their products, but a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Food Pantry in Londonderry will also be held in conjunction with the fair. The craft fair has been an annual event run by the student council for 13 years, originally being started by student council advisor Heather Bouchard.
“I was a class advisor and we needed a fundraiser so I came up with this,” Bouchard said. “I grew up being a vendor at a craft fair with my mom so that’s why I started the fair.”
The craft fair will be featuring over 50 local crafters from our communities coming to share a variety of different products.
“I tried to make sure I don’t have too much of the same stuff so it’s more interesting,” Bouchard said. “I have a woman that’s selling terrariums this year. I have a potter that comes in with her actual pottery wheel and does pottery on the spot, which is pretty cool. [The vendors] usually come to sell holiday items so it’s a good place to get handmade, local items.”
Student Council co-advisor Hannah Dailey welcomes all students to come help out with the preparations for the fair if they wish to.
“If any student is interested in volunteering, we’re doing our set up on Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. before the event starts,” Dailey said, “Anyone who wants to help out can come and participate in that or just come in to shop at the fair and donate to St. Judes Food Pantry.”
Going to the craft fair is a good way for anyone in our community to see both the talent of our community members to create goods but also get a glimpse of our school community.
“It’s just a really cool way for different members of the community to showcase all their awesome skills and talents that they have with their products they bring in and it’s a nice way to get them into the high school and see what we do and what student council does so it’s been a nice partnership between both,” Dailey said.
Everyone is welcome to come visit the craft fair and see what our community has to offer.
“It’s a good opportunity to see that other people appreciate their work,” Bouchard said. “It’s important for people to get out and see what is possible to do if you really enjoy a hobby and to see that there are a ton of people that are interested in your craft.”
