Spotify Wrapped: From playlist to passion
With the belated anticipation of this year’s Spotify Wrapped coming out, carrying traditions since 2016, the day has finally come after an extended waiting period. Last year’s 2023 ‘Wrapped’ was released on November 29, causing people to anticipate the release of this year’s 2024 wrapped even more. It wasn’t until December 4 when this ‘present’ was given out to Spotify users. Now it’s time to unravel this year’s bundle of what we loved, what we were hung up on, and how music has kept us feeling.
Many feel very content when they are provided with capsules of memories through the art of music and entertainment they have engaged in. Something that makes Spotify wrapped so powerful is that it recaps a timeline of the year.
The ‘Wrapped” includes a variety of playlists to flip through including Your Top Songs of 2024, which are the songs you had on repeat. Your Music Evolution 2024, showcasing songs you have discovered throughout the year, that are now added to your daily listening. Your Artist Clips, featuring your top artists who have recorded appreciation videos for their top listeners. 2024 in Music, brings attention to your top artists, tracks, and podcasts of the year.
Outside of just your standard listens, Spotify also supplies other options of entertainment. 2024 in Audiobooks, the book you couldn’t stop flipping through. The 2024 in Podcasts feature gives a good wrap around for all the stories and drama you kept up to date with this year. Wrapped AI podcasts hosted by google notebook featuring your “musical adventures” from this year.
Apple Music: Replay the Moments
Since 2019, Apple music has offered its own twist of Spotify’s Wrapped. While both platforms highlight your top artists, songs and albums, Apple Music added its own features that make this experience different from “wrapped.”
One standout feature is the ability to show all of your results not just from the whole year but each month as well. Every slide is a different month showcasing which were your top. Some other features include, Top artists streaks where it shows how often you listen to them in addition to your longest streaks of listening. Another standout is the Listening milestones where you can celebrate key moments like the song you played the most in one day or the album that took over your week.
Both platforms are great for showing your personality through song, it gives you a chance to share how you were feeling at a certain point or the whole year. It can show how you have grown music wise from the previous year and how you can grow in the future.
